Your Ativa router includes a built-in switch for sharing devices such as
a printer, which allows all the computers on your network to send print
jobs to one central printer. The router may not automatically detect
the connected printer, which prevents the device from appearing in the
list of available devices on your computer. The Ativa router may not see
the printer if its internal firmware has malfunctioned or you have a
program such as a firewall blocking access to the device.
-
Before performing any software troubleshooting to determine
why the printer doesn't appear on your network, the cables for each
device should be checked to ensure there aren't any physical connection
problems. To check for a faulty physical connection and power cycle the
router, unplug the printer's Ethernet cable from the back of the router
and disconnect the router's power cable. Wait 15 seconds and then
reconnect both cables to their appropriate ports.
-
If you can't connect to your printer through the Ativa
router, the problem may reside with your computer. The Windows operating
system includes an option to automatically check for software problems
and ensure your network adapter is working properly. To access the
diagnostic tool, open the "Network" icon in the lower-right corner of
the screen. Click "Open Network and Sharing Center" and "Troubleshoot
Problems." Click "Network Adapter" to start the diagnostic process.
-
A firewall installed on your computer may have its security
options set too high, which prevents you from accessing a printer
through your router. To check if your firewall is causing the problem,
temporarily disable the software. If you're using the standard Windows
firewall, click the Windows orb and type "Firewall" minus the quotes in
the search box. Click the "Windows Firewall" icon and click the "Turn
Windows Firewall On or Off" link. Click "Turn off Windows Firewall" and
click "OK."
-
Your Ativa router uses firmware to interact with other
devices, such as your computer or printer. If your firmware is outdated
or isn't working properly, the router may not recognize your printer. To
find the latest firmware, navigate to the support website for your
Ativa model and click the "Download" button next to the most recent
firmware available. Open the router's settings menu and click the
"Update Firmware" link underneath the "Utilities" heading. Click
"Browse" and select the firmware file you downloaded.
